Agreed, that would be the most simple solution, I just worry about that biting me in the butt somewhere in my designs. Albiet this is the most simple solution and worthy of adding. I'll update.

The content hack doesn't actually have any possible issue with it. (at least that I know of)

I wonder very much about the use of the extra div is still used. That's the worst possible solution.

Unless you need some overflow, this solution would be the most simple one:

<code>
article, aside, div, form, header, nav, section, ul { overflow: hidden }
</code>

But since every site I make is special, I would not set a default clearfix. A .clearfix div is the worst solution and I wonder why it’s still used very often.

Thanks! I'll check that out for my next revision.
Yeah.. I would like to have more accurate measurements.. but then again, I find myself wondering if there are other areas that could use more time measuring performance. :D

You might be able to make use of the Reflow Timer bookmarklet I have up on this page:
http://www.browserscope.org/reflow/about (look in the top right). You should be able to use that on IE too.
Essentially, the takeaway looks to be the same as what Steve saw too - a linear performance drop based on # of selectors. The same is also true, that the number of elements a selector matches and the level of DOM depth impacts performance (my finding is that those are linear too).
